Tickle Your Way Out of Awkward Social Obligations Beth Snyder March 21, 2014 It sounds dirty, doesn’t it? But it’s really not, I promise. This is actually something that could come in very handy be it a social or business obligation you want to get out of, or any conversation you’re stuck having with someone you’d rather not spend time with. Remember back in the 90s when a lot of people carried pagers? I can admit I more than once paged myself and claimed it was work so I could leave somewhere early (most notably my cousin’s wedding reception, which took place at a roller skating rink). This is the updated version of that. Tickle is a service which will call you so you can pretend something important came up and you have to go. While any of us can fake receiving a phone call, some of us are simply not good at pretending. And then you run the risk that your phone will actually ring while you’re “talking” to someone, which means you get caught. No bueno. And unlike paging yourself, there’s no need to surreptitiously do anything… all you have to do is move your phone “in an awkward manner” and Tickle will call you. From there, it’s up to you. Your phone rings, and your possible reasons for needing to leave wherever you are seem pretty endless. If you don’t want to leave the party, just your current conversation, there’s always the standard, “I’m sorry, but this is an important call I have to take.” And when you’re done on the phone, you just go talk to someone else. Check out the video below to see Tickle in action. It’s really kind of brilliant. Unfortunately, it’s not widely available yet; you’ll have to head to the Tickle website to get on the waiting list. It’s only available for iOS and is in beta testing. But I would imagine it’ll be in the App Store (and hopefully in the Play Store for Android as well) soon.
