The News: Flash of Brilliance Edition Beth Snyder June 30, 2012 This morning at 5am when I wasn’t sleeping, I had the most brilliant thought ever! My dad has everything he could ever possibly need as far as gifts, and his 79th birthday is next week. For the last several years, I’ve been going to the local gourmet popcorn place and getting a variety of caramel corn and other popcorn for him for every holiday. But the thing is, he isn’t doing well (Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s), and he really doesn’t need more stuff. He has collected elephants his entire life, and I used to find him really cool elephant figurines from around the world. But now his house is pretty much full of them, and there’s only so much room. Last night it occurred to me. World Wildlife Fund does symbolic animal adoptions! I’m getting him a Pygmy Elephant for his birthday, and it’s going to be fabulous! Assuming he remembers about the elephants, of course. There’s always that risk now.
