Today, Sony Mobile Communications and Sony/RED distributed music artist Metric debuted a crowdsourced music video for the title track from Metric’s latest album Synthetica. The music video was shot entirely on the Xperia ion, Sony’s first 4G LTE smartphone available exclusively on AT&T, and showcases its HD everywhere experience that is brought to life on the Xperia ion from Sony. The music video features a rare acoustic performance of the song “Synthetica” shot live at Hotel on Rivington’s penthouse in New York City. Audience members were given Xperia ion smartphones and were encouraged to unleash their creativity as they filmed the performance. The footage was directed by Chris Lenox Smith, known for his work with artists, Passion Pit, TV on the Radio and My Morning Jacket. The music video can be viewed on Metric’s YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/metricmusic) and a bonus behind-the-scenes video is available on Sony Mobile’s US YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/sonyxperiaus). “We wanted to take the experience beyond the smartphone by pushing the boundaries of how people use technology,” said Peter Farmer, Vice President of Marketing for North America at Sony Mobile Communications. “Using the Xperia ion’s outstanding HD capturing capabilities, we were able to create a music video for Metric that is both innovative and imaginative.” “Metric has a history of quickly adopting emerging technologies to try new things and push the envelope,” said Metric Manager Mathieu Drouin. “When Sony came out with a new smartphone that had the capability to shoot in true HD, we immediately took notice. We were already looking for something fun and creative to do for the song ‘Synthetica’, and the idea of an HD video shot in a live setting by a collective of fans on Sony Xperia ions and then edited together to create a cohesive piece sounded like a great place to start. We’re thrilled with the result.” The Xperia ion is now available exclusively on AT&T and costs just $99.99 with a new two-year agreement. The Xperia ion is ideal for creating and showcasing premium entertainment with video, photo, music and gaming.
