Smart PJs Bring Bedtime Storytelling into the Digital Age Beth Snyder May 4, 2013 When I was a kid, my favourite thing was my bedtime stories. I was particularly fond of Where the Wild Things Are as well as Harold and the Purple Crayon, but really any story would do. Much like now as an adult, really…just about any book can make me happy, although I do have my favourites. But we are now in a digital age, where schools still encourage reading but now are doing so on tablets, computers and e-readers instead of actual books. While that makes me sad, I guess I have no choice but to get with the times, and these new pajamas look like an interesting way to start. These are Smart PJs, and while to look at them you might think they are simply decorated with a series of dots, what they really are is QR codes disguised as decoration. All you need to do is read the QR code with your smartphone, and voila! Bedtime story, right there on the screen! You do have to download an app to make them work, but it’s available for both iPhone and Android systems so no one is left out. Not only do the stories appear on your screen in words that are read to your child, but you have the option to turn off the volume and read to them yourself as well as giving animal information contained in the stories so your child can learn to read themselves. Smart PJs are available for both boys and girls, and come in four different sizes. Each pair retails for about $25.00 US, which if I remember from the last time I had to buy pajamas for a kid is comparable to the price of those that don’t have bonus embedded stories. What I don’t see anywhere is laundering information. I’m sure they are washable, but you might not be able to toss them in the dryer. And I’m sure the more they are washed, the harder it will be to read the QR codes, until such a time as they are unusable. But by then the odds are good that your child will have outgrown the pajamas anyway, right? Source: Oh Gizmo Share This With The World!
