Shell Asks, “What’s Your Energy Mix?” (Video) Michael Kwan December 21, 2012 When you think about an oil company like Shell, you immediately assume that they’re only about the stuff that you pump into your car. Of course, that’s a big part of their business, but they also have to think about the future. We also have to realize that any one energy source is probably not going to cut the mustard on its own. We can’t rely on solar for everything. We can’t rely on hydro, natural gas, or oil either. That’s why Shell has ongoing projects where they are trying to broaden the world’s energy mix. Global energy demand continues to rise and that’s why we need a blend of different energy sources to satisfy this demand. At the same time, we also have to figure out how to be more efficient with each of these sources, improving fuel economy in our cars and the power consumption of our day-to-day electronics. Having a little fun with this, Shell has put together an interactive video–embedded below–where you can develop your own energy mix. It’s a music mixer, in essence, borrowing a little from the “everyday sounds” feel of a group like Stomp. At several points in the video, you can choose what energy you’d like to add to the mix. Choose gas, for example, and you’ll add the sound effect of a natural gas stove turning on. It’s pretty neat. Check it out. Share This With The World!
