Shady Business Practices January 27, 2011 Because I'm a grownup (and also because there might be rules), I will not name the company. However, I placed an order yesterday with a well-known kitchen gadget store with a hyphenated name for one of their internet exclusive items for a friend's wedding. Apparently, their policy is to get TWO authorizations for DOUBLE the purchase price when someone pays with a debit card, with the second hold to be released "in a few days". I realize it's not their fault I have several thousand dollars in medical bills and run my account close to the edge, but until I called and talked to the supervisor's supervisor to get the second one removed, I couldn't make my scheduled payment to the hospital, which would have resulted in a late fee. What a crock. And they have lost a long-time customer in the process.
