Samsung Unpacked Event in a Nutshell Dylan Duarte August 13, 2015 News Samsung held their annual Unpacked event in New York City this morning and among the things they unpacked were two new phones, an optional physical smartphone keyboard, and news about Samsung Pay. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is intended for those looking for a smartphone that excels in multimedia. The Galaxy Note5 is designed for those who multi-task. They’ve both got curved, 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screens, Octacore (2.1GHz Quad + 1.5GHz Quad) processors, 4GB RAM, and 3,000 mAh fast charging batteries. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ features both Apps edge and People edge for quick and easy access to your favorite apps and contacts. The Galaxy Note5’s ergonomic design makes it the perfect fit for your hand and the flat screen is ideal for taking down notes. Sadly, as we reported before, there will be no more MicroSD slot. Both phones will be available White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium, come in 32GB and 64GB models, and will be available for purchase on August 21st. Samsung Pay will launch in Korea on August 20 and in the US on September 28. It uses a combination of NFC and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) that will make Samsung Pay compatible with most card readers. The feature will be available on the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5. A new Live Broadcast feature will let Note 5 and S6 Edge+ users stream video straight from their camera apps to other contacts or even YouTube. This technology isn’t new, but having it integrated into the camera app. It certainly makes streaming easier, which may lead to more users doing it. Many users, myself included, still miss the feel of tactile keyboards. Samsung recognizes this and that’s why they’re releasing an optional keyboard cover designed to give Note 5 and S6 Edge+ users the choice of typing on a physical keyboard. The keyboard doesn’t extend the phone, but covers the bottom half, and the display compensates accordingly. Finally, Samsung briefly mentioned the Gear S2, which will be officially unveiled on September 3rd.
