reMarkable’s Paper Tablet is Remarkably Overpriced Dylan Duarte December 2, 2016 News Over the last few years, e-readers have skyrocketed in popularity and in doing so have made a serious dent in our paper usage. It only makes sense to use the same technology to replace the notebooks that we write. That’s what reMarkable hopes to do with their paper tablet. This isn’t the first time someone has tried this, but if at first you don’t succeed – try, try again. reMarkable’s paper tablet (which is the actual name) is essentially a large E Ink tablet and it uses “ultra high friction” materials to replicate the feeling of writing on actual paper. You can use any tablet to take notes by hand, but it always feels like writing on a tablet. Perhaps the paper tablet’s feel will be the difference-maker. Don’t get it twisted, reMarkable’s device looks fantastic. As someone who’s never gotten over their love of writing longhand, it absolutely appeals to me. However, the price is more than enough to make me walk on by without a second glance. Right now the tablet is available for preorder for $379, which is actually a discount off of the normal price of $716; that price includes the $529 tablet, $79 pen, and $79 folia case. I’m all for saving the trees, but I’d rather my wallet not become collateral damage. Share This With The World!
