Even though some people have blamed it for the inevitable demise of the NES Classic, it’s undeniable that more than a few people are pretty excited about the upcoming mini SNES to replace. The tiny retro console isn’t set to hit store shelves until later this year, but you’ll be able to pre-order SNES Classic units starting this week if you know where to look.

Spotted by the eagle-eyed folks at BGR, it looks like some anxious shoppers found the listing for the SNES Classic on the Walmart website on Friday night. They went ahead and put in their pre-orders, only to see these orders cancelled a short while afterward. Saddened, they took to the Walmart reps who say the listing was a mistake.

But there’s a silver lining. The reps indicated that while the listing was a mistake, it was only a mistake of timing. The page to pre-order SNES Classic consoles is scheduled to go back up this week, both at Walmart and at Target. There’s no specific indication for which day this week, so you’ll just need to keep checking in if you want to get ahead of the giant online hordes of retro gaming enthusiasts.

I need not remind you of the rabid fervor surrounding the NES Classic. Like its predecessor, the SNES Classic will come preloaded with a bunch of classic titles and will be bundle in a couple of controllers, this time thankfully with longer cords. It looks to be priced at $80 US with the actual launch date planned for some time this fall.
