Pokemon Go Progression Tops Out at Level 40 Dylan Duarte July 27, 2016 News In the name of science and presumably not greedy Pokemon collecting, a Pokemon Go player has used a bot to reach level 40, which is apparently as high as a player can go (for now, at least). What did it take to get a there? Well, cumulatively, only a whopping  20 million experience points. For those who don’t play the game, catching a Pokemon you already have (which happens frequently because there are only 150 in total) nets you around 100 experience points. To the person’s credit, they claim to have used the bot only to find the max level, didn’t fight in any gyms so they wouldn’t ruin the game for others, and are now requesting that Niantec delete the account. According to simple math, the bot would have had to have been running for more than 65 hours, with lucky eggs active – items that double your experience. I’m more than willing to believe that the user did this for research purposes rather than just exploiting the game for fun, simply because Pokemon Go has been a learning experience for us all. The game doesn’t have any sort of in-depth manual and players have had to work together to figure out how the game works. There are still plenty of unanswered questions, too.
