When Nokia sold its mobile device business over to Microsoft, the Finnish company also agreed that it wouldn’t get back into the smartphone business until the end of 2016 and far longer for feature phones (assuming that feature phones will still exist a decade from now). Of course, there are other divisions at Nokia and it’s not like the company is going to cease to exist. In fact, the official Nokia Twitter account just offered a teaser, saying that they’re “up to something” and that something looks like it’ll be revealed tomorrow.

The decidedly cryptic message and image offer a few clues. First, we see the obvious date, so Nokia will be telling or showing us something on November 18. Second, we see a rather generic-looking black box with the Nokia branding on top. It’s possible that Nokia wants to enter the set-top box market, competing against something like the Nexus Player or the Amazon Fire TV. Indeed, that box looks a lot like an Apple TV, wouldn’t you say? And perhaps this is what Nokia meant when it included the #thinkingahead hashtag in its tweet.

Then again, those sneaky Finns could have an entirely different trick up their winter sweater sleeves and that Nokia black box could be just a box, containing the actual product within. We can’t say for sure, so I guess we’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears peeled tomorrow when Nokia makes its announcement. What’s your best guess?
