Nagasaki Day Beth Snyder August 9, 2011 Recently, I found out that at least around here, kids are barely being taught history. My 16-year-old niece had no idea whatsoever when or where the first atomic bombs were dropped. I find that both sad and disturbing. Today is the anniversary of the bombing at Nagasaki (the one on Hiroshima was three days ago), and the ensuing permanent changes to how the world handles pretty much everything. In remembrance of those who lost their lives both immediately and from the after-effects on this day in 1945, it would be appropriate to have a moment of silence.
