Moto Z2 Force Shrinks Battery, Doubles Camera Michael Kwan July 25, 2017 News Earlier today, Lenovo announced its newest phone, the Moto Z2 Force. As its name implies, it’s the successor to last year’s Moto Z Force, upgrading a number of features while sliding back on a couple others. Is it enough to pull you away from the Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel lines? We were introduced to the Moto Z2 Play just last month. That was more of a mid-range phone at a mid-range price, whereas the Moto Z2 Force is largely being positioned as Lenovo’s flagship smartphone of 2017. It boasts top end specs like the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of stroage, along with Android 7.1 out of the box with Android O to follow. It’s also the first major phone from Motorola/Lenovo to be offered across all four major carriers in the United States: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint are all adding this phone to their lineup. One key upgrade is the dual 12MP camera configuration on the back. One is monochrome and one is color, giving you the bokeh effect of the iPhone’s portrait mode. The front-facing camera is 5MP. Another highlight is the 5.5-inch quad HD AMOLED screen with its ShatterShield technology, making for a shatterproof display. And yes, you get MotoMods too. However, contrary to earlier leaks, the new Moto Z2 Force does not have a traditional headphone jack. That could be problematic for a lot of users, but that’s the necessary sacrifice to slim down the smartphone even further. What’s more, the battery is just 2,730 mAh, compared to the 3,500 mAh battery from last year’s phone. Expect the Moto Z2 Force to drop (but not shatter) for about $720 outright ($810 with AT&T) next month. The Verge offers its first look in video form below.
