MEGATech Showcase: More Flash Drives! Beth Snyder March 4, 2012 It’s my favourite time again! Although the selection of oddly-shaped flash drives has gotten a little slim since Christmas, there are still enough varieties and types that do neat things or have neat features to keep me entertained. Maybe you’ll find your next one among this selection; I’m pretty sure I have. First up are the Exclusivist Empty Memory USB Sticks. The design of these is just fascinating to me. I mean…they’re actually empty. The addition of the acrylic pieces gives them a unique almost jewelry-like look. They’re made with either either brushed stainless steel and acrylic or all 316 stainless steel. They are each 4GB, and are available for 48 each. As the name indicates, it supports USB 3.0, but is also backward compatible to USB 2.0. It requires Windows: XP/Vista/7 or later, Mac OS10.5 or later, and Linux Kernel 2.6 or later. It’s constructed of water- and shock-resistant rubber. This one is available in 8GB at 14, 16 GB at 21 and 32GB at 43. Source: KitGuru Probably I’ve featured this one before, but I think it’s neat. If you are or know someone who is a photography nut, what better place to store digital pictures than on a Canon flash drive? This is fully licensed, unlike some other camera-shaped flash drives out there, and offers up 4GB of storage capacity. In order to access the flash drive, you remove the lens. This one is available for 17.99 ($28.00 US, 21). Source: Geek Alerts Anybody want a banana? This is actually an ingenious design, if you look at it. You don’t have to completely remove the cap, so there’s no risk of losing it. To access the flash drive, you peel the banana and flip the tip to the side. It is supposed to be water-, shake- and shock-proof. It comes attached to a keychain, and is available in 16GB for #36.00 US. Source: 7 Gadgets Since most of us can’t afford an actual Mini Cooper, maybe this will help ease the craving. It comes in three models: Fire Chief, Blue Panda Police, and #75 Racing Car. Each one will give you 4GB of storage, and they sell for around $36.00 US. The connector slides out the back of the car with a switch, and they even have rubber tires. Source” Technabob No collection would be complete without Hello Kitty. Me, I can’t stand the stupid thing, but she’s hugely popular around the globe, so whatever. My favourite part about this one is that you have to pop her head off to access the flash drive, but then I have a sick sense of humour. Capacity is 16GB, and you can pick one up for the fairly ridiculous price of $34.99 US. Source: 7 Gadgets If this isn’t cool, I don’t know what is. I’ve been known to enjoy a bottle of wine now and then, and this flash drive just grabbed my attention. They can even be customized with your own label, which I find incredibly cool. They only offer 4GB capacity, but that seems to be the norm for the ones I like best. Each one will run you just $12.99 US (with the standard label). Source: Geek Alerts It’s a keychain. It’s jewelry. It’s a flash drive! Girly girls need to store their files, too, right? So here’s something they can get into. This USB 2.0 flash drive is decorated with crystals, and offers up 16GB capacity. Get one for the woman in your life for just $39.99 US. Source: y7 Gadgets Tired of losing your flash drive? Try this variation on tying a string around your finger. A rubber bracelet encloses a flash drive anywhere from 2GB to 8GB, and even if you remove it, you’d be hard-pressed to lose it on your desk given its bright orange colour. This one is a Kickstarter project, and pricing starts at $20.00 US. Looks like they’re definitely going to reach their goal, so you should be able to get one soon! Source: Ubergizmo Here’s another girly one, designed to be worn as a necklace. 32GB of storage nestled in a jeweled red and gold butterfly. It offers a write speed of up to 3.5 MB/sec and a read speed of up to 12.2 MB/sec and is really pretty reasonably priced at $39.68 US. Source: 7 Gadgets Share This With The World!
