While Android and Apple fight for dominance over the mobile OS market here in North America, the battle seems to be over in Germany, at least for the government. German chancellor Angela Merkel and other figures in various ministries and federal agencies will reportedly be using the BlackBerry Z10 thanks to it being more secure than its rivals.

Roughly half of the 10,000 mobile devices used by members of the German government will be Z10s, while the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy S III make up the other five thousand phones.

This is big for BlackBerry, especially after an otherwise so-so start. BlackBerry 10 is by no means a failure, but it certainly hasn’t been a runaway success, either. After this latest news, it looks like BlackBerry 10 has had a pretty successful debut after all.
