Fake Samsung Site Has Been Stealing Personal Info Dylan Duarte April 24, 2015 News According to Korean website ET News, a malicious, fraudulent website has been posing as Samsung for two years now and was just discovered and shut down by the actual Samsung on Wednesday, April 22. The fake site would get traffic by sending out mass text messages claiming that recipients could win up to 1.3 million dollars. The message would give out a serial number called a “Samsung Key” and direct the person to a website, where they would be prompted to enter the number. Once they do so, they’re hit with malware that goes after their personal data. The specific domain name – samsungiprize – was registered in March, but apparently the scam has been going on for some time under different names. With their latest website shut down, chances are they’ll just pop back up again with a new name, and this is just a further reminder of how careful you have to be online. I feel like this is the early days of the Internet all over again when people need to be told to not trust unsolicited messages. Share This With The World!
