AT&T Discontinuing HTC First Dylan Duarte May 13, 2013 Ouch, right in the Facebook. The HTC First, or “Facebook phone” as it was known to some, has performed so poorly since its release just last month that AT&T is discounting the phone and sending the unsold units back to HTC. The phone debuted at an affordable $99 with a new two-year contract. Soon after, AT&T dropped that price to $0.99, which was a surefire sign that things were not going well. The HTC First was the first smartphone to come with pre-loaded with Facebook Home, a piece of software that’s weathered its fair share of criticism. AT&T can’t pull the phone from its shelves just yet, as they’re contracted to give the phone adequate shelf space. The $0.99 price point should help move a lot of that hardware, at least that’s the idea. It’s unclear when HTC’s contract is up, but once it is, expect those smartphones to disappear. via BGR Share This With The World!
