Apple’s New Wireless Charging Technology Allan Schroeder November 29, 2012 Apple has apparently invented a new method for wirelessly charging multiple devices at once. Patently Apple reports this new NFMR (new field magnetic resonance) power transfer technology is able extend the charging radius up to one meter (three feet) and be able to charge multiple devices simultaneously. The NFMR power transmitter would be located inside a new iMac, eliminating the need for an inductive charging pad and cluttering charging cables. In an interview with AllThingsD after the iPhone 5’s Special Event held in September, Phil Schiller mentioned that “wireless charging systems still have to be plugged into the wall, so it’s not clear how much convenience they add.” Schiller added, “Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated.” It seems Phil Schiller had something up his sleeve as today, the US Patent Office published the patent for Apple’s new charging system. It appears that this new charging system won’t come cheap, though, as consumers would have to purchase a new iMac in order to take advantage of Apple’s latest technology. Share This With The World!
