Well, this is embarrassing. To the surprise of a lot of people, Blackberry Messenger has seen a good deal of success since launch on Android earlier this week. However, it looks as if someone wasn’t too confident in the app’s success and a flood of seemingly fake five-star reviews has been hitting the Google Play Store.

There are already 150,000 reviews, which apparently turned some heads, and those heads saw something fishy going on. A large amount of the reviews contain almost identical text that reads something close to “Thank you so much Blackberry team. I was waiting this app. It is really great user friendly and smooth.” That message alone should arouse immediate suspicion, but to absolutely extinguish any doubt that something fishy is going on, another review includes the above text, prefaced with "Please post the following comment on the new BlackBerry Messenger Android APP. 'Thank you so much black berry team...'"

So far, there’s no smoking gun linking Blackberry to this incident, but the company has been hurting for money and it’s not crazy to think they’d try to ensure that BBM on Android was a hit. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how this one plays out.
