HAPIFork

When I saw this one, I have to admit I laughed so hard and for so long that my mother came down the hall from the other end of the house to see what exactly was up. And then she laughed hysterically for quite a while. I mean, complete with tears streaming down our faces and the occasional snort. Which means if you actually want one of these, then I should apologize…but I just can’t do it. This thing is entirely too darn funny!

HAPIfork: the latest gadget in the health-conscious trend, will debut on Kickstarter later this year (March or so). The deal here is that it’s a fork which tracks how much of what you eat, and how fast you’re eating it. If the fork determines you’re eating too fast, it’ll vibrate in your hand to remind you to stop shoveling food in your mouth at speeds that may well break the sound barrier while also breaking your waistband. But that’s not all! It will also send the data it collects to your smartphone or other mobile device for evaluation, which will then come up with a plan for getting your behind to a manageable size. You can then choose to keep that information private, or overshare it to all your friends and family. I guess if you have trouble sticking to a diet and/or exercise plan, telling everyone might be a good idea, in hopes they’ll shame you into sticking to it.

I still can’t stop laughing, sorry. My mother said, and I quote, “That might be nice if you bought it for yourself. But if anyone ever bought it for me, they obviously don’t value their life.” Which is something you should be aware of, especially if this has struck you as something you should buy your wife or girlfriend to help them keep to their diet. Odds are pretty good it will not be a gift she’ll appreciate.

No word yet on how much you’ll have to pledge to get in on this one, so you’ll have to keep an eye on Kickstarter to see when it appears.
