I discovered I still have some of the skills my father taught me when I was very small, which is neat. We used to go camping for 4-6 weeks every spring, and when I say camping, I mean seriously camping. Middle of the national forest in a tent. If you didn’t bring it with you, it doesn’t exist. 45-minute drive to the nearest store. So tonight I made the campfire using only things I found on the ground and a starter flame, and it was fabulous. Of course, I then added chopped wood we bought from the office here at the complex, but whatever. The fact remains I am still capable of getting it started, which is pretty good considering it’s been at least 30 years since I’ve had to do it.
