The only thing more fun than official announcements are unofficial leaks, especially when the leak comes from the company that’s trying to keep things a secret. Microsoft unveiled the Surface Pro 3 tablet last month, but they were expected to also reveal a smaller version, a Surface Mini, but that didn’t happen with reports suggesting that they canceled it at the last minute. Microsoft has remained silent on the subject, but a new Surface Pro 3 manual was recently posted on the Microsoft website and it contains lines like “You’ll pair your new pen with Surface Mini a little later during setup.”

Oops!

I don’t know if the cat was ever fully in the bag, but it’s definitely out at this point. The manual references the Surface Mini multiple times, so there’s no mistaking that it is – or at least, was – a thing. This isn’t unlike when the Surface Pro 3 was leaked before Microsoft had a chance to officially announce it. Microsoft needs to keep a tighter lid on things, to say the least.

What we don’t know is whether or not Microsoft intends to actually release the Surface Mini. A month ago, we reported the rumor that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Executive VP Stephen Elop turned their attention away from the Surface Mini. Then the very next day there were reports that Microsoft is in fact planning to launch the Mini with Office Gemini.

If one thing is for certain, it’s that we’re all pretty tired of hearing about the Surface Mini and we just want to get our hands on one.
