Sony Xperia Z5 Premium 4K Smartphone Finds a Home with Bell Michael Kwan November 27, 2015 News Somehow, it seems like the 5.5-inch smartphone has suddenly become the norm. That’s the size for the OnePlus 2, that’s the size for the Moto X Play, and it’s also the size for the newly launched Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Canadians can get their hands on this mega-sized 4K beast of a mobile starting today from Bell Mobility. As you might recall, we reported back in August that Sony would have (at least) three variations on the Z5 and that came to be true. The Xperia Z3 Compact last year has been succeeded by the Z5 Compact. There’s the “regular” Z5 and then there’s the big, bad Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Easily the most notable feature on this phone is that it’s the world’s first 4K smartphone with an incredible 806ppi pixel density. However, as popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee points out, it’s not really a 4K smartphone. It has a 4K-capable display, but it shows things in 1080p most of the time. The homescreen, most apps and most games will run at 1080p to conserve battery life. You only “pop” into 4K when viewing higher resolution photos, for example. But hey, it’s a technological marvel and I’m sure it’ll usher in a whole generation of 4K smartphones in the next couple of years. And following the tradition of previous phones from the Xperia Z family, you’ll get a great camera (23 megapixels with 0.03s autofocus), plenty of premium glass all around, and up to two days of battery life. Following the latest trends, it’s got an integrated secure fingerprint sensor too. The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is available from Bell for $299.99 on a 2-year term or $749.99 outright. It’s also available in whatever color you want, as long as it’s black. Like Black Friday. But without the door crasher deal. Because you wouldn’t want to crash all that glass. Okay, I’ll stop now.
