Samsung has the super curvy Galaxy S7 edge and the explosive Galaxy Note7, for example, both of which have dual curved edges to their displays. But what if you added another curved edge. And rounded the corners too? That’s exactly what the Sharp Corner R can promise.

You see, the thing with Samsung’s curved displays is that they only curve along one axis and as thin as those almost invisible bezels may be, you still have a swath of not-display above and below the display. That’s at least 50% untrue with the Sharp Corner R, because the screen extends all the way to the top. The curve along the top edge meets with the curves along the left and right edges to make for rounded corners too.

Where did they put the earpiece and front-facing camera? Beats me. But it looks cool, right?

This big step in curving screens and corners is made possible by Sharp’s Free-Form Display technology. This lets them cut the IGZO LCD panels into different shapes. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the 5.2-inch display is only 1080p and, worse yet, the Sharp Corner R is basically still an engineering concept. When and if they’ll ever make this commercially available is anyone’s guess.
