Sanyo Waist Warmer: Oddity or Ingenuity?

Everywhere I’ve turned the last few days, I’ve seen this. So I figured I should do a post on it as well. What I can’t decide is if this is really neat or really unnecessary. It definitely gets cold where I live, but I’m hard-pressed to remember ever thinking, “You know what I need? A strap around my waist that heats up!” Maybe because I’d never heard of such a thing, but it’s just not usually my waist that gets cold, it’s my hands and feet. Most of the time, I don’t even bother to zip my coat. But this offers something else besides warmth, which means it might just be worth giving a try.

The Sanyo ENW-WW2 is not just a belt that heats up to keep your middle warm, it will also charge your gadgets. Yup, you read that right. A gadget charger with a heating element. Intrigued? I kind of am. The warming belt is powered by a lithium ion battery, and will keep your belly warm for up to seven hours. If you’re already warm enough, you can instead use it to charge your phone. Obviously the length of time varies depending on if you’re using it to charge something rather than just for heat, or if you use them simultaneously.

This isn’t available yet, but is supposed to be released in Japan October 21 for 8000 (~$104 USD).
