Among the plethora of products Apple has released over the years, a touchscreen Mac is not among them, nor is one coming. Steve Jobs himself referred to them as “ergonomically terrible.” Chief Design Officer Jony Ive went on record saying that Apple had actually given the idea a fair shake, testing more than a few models over the years, but walked away deciding against the idea. However, none of this has kept MacBook fans from wanting a touchscreen, and the recent addition of the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro has reignited that desire in people, bringing us the MacBook Touch.

Swiss website HandyAbovergleich has whipped up a concept for a MacBook with a touchscreen, calling it the MacBook Touch, which is almost definitely what Apple would call the device if they were to make it themselves. Concept fan art for touchscreen MacBooks is not a new thing, but this one is exceptionally good, and something I would absolutely want if it were real. And not only does it look great, but the folks at HandyAbovergleich have done their research; Steve Jobs’s specific gripe was with vertical touchscreens, but the fictitious MacBook Touch sports a touchscreen keyboard, making it flat and horizontal. It probably wouldn’t be too great for typing, but it solves the problem of being “ergonomically terrible.”

The concept also sports an edge-to-edge trackbar, TouchBar 2, a touch dock, and an Apple Pencil. It honestly looks like a dream come true for artists who work with Apple products. And while Apple doesn’t have a touchscreen MacBook in their history, nobody can say definitively that they won’t have one in their future.
