Cafe Refrigerator by GE Does Heating and Cooling Beth Snyder May 1, 2013 OK, I am officially intrigued. We’ve all seen refrigerators that dispense ice and cold water for decades, but this is the first time I have ever seen one that also dispenses hot water. It’s not that it’s unreasonable they should do so (we’ve had water coolers at work that dispense both hot and cold water for quite a while), it’s that it never occurred to me that a refrigerator would. I mean, refrigerators are for cold things by nature, so it seems counter-intuitive for them to dispense something hot. But if you think about it, why the heck hasn’t anyone thought of this before? It’s brilliant! Especially if you live alone and simply want to enjoy a single cup of tea or other hot beverage, it can be something of a pain to either heat a kettle of water on the stove, or boil water in the microwave. Not only that, but it takes time you may not have, especially if you have to get up at dark-thirty in the morning. Saving even one extra minute for sleep can make all the difference in the world, especially if you’re decidedly not a morning person like myself. GE not only has designed their Cafe French door refrigerator to dispense both cold and hot water, they’ve even made it possible for you to choose different temperatures depending on what beverage you intend to enjoy. You can choose from 90F (warm water), 150F (hot cocoa), 170F (hot tea) or 185F (soup). All this, and it’s still Energy Star listed! In addition, it features the most advanced water filtration system to remove 98% of five different trace pharmaceuticals often found in tap water, an odor filter, and patented TwinChill Evaporators to prevent smells from transmitting any refrigerator odors to the freezer and vice versa. I have no idea how much this thing costs, but I would hazard a guess that it’s not cheap. A regular refrigerator isn’t cheap, and with all the added features of this one can only increase the price. But kudos to GE for making something a reality that I didn’t even realize I wanted. Source: Red Ferret Share This With The World!
