Even though this story already had a happy ending, it’s now got a happy epilogue as well. Sahas Katta is an Android user who participated in his local Microsoft Store’s “smoked by Windows Phone” competition, in which contestants using rival operating systems pit their phone up against a Windows Phone for the chance to win a laptop and, fittingly, a Windows Phone.

The challenge was to bring up the weather of two different cities – something Katta accomplished moments before his Windows phone opponent. The Microsoft store manager then told him that the two cities had to be in different states, a stipulation that hadn’t been mentioned prior, and that Katta had in fact lost. His story quickly gained traction and shortly after Ben Rudolph of Microsoft offered an apology via Twitter, as well as the laptop and phone that were rightfully Katta’s, which he picked up at the same store where he had “lost” the competition.

And now Katta says that he’s happy with his current hardware and he’s put the $1,049 special edition Hunger Games HP Folio 13 laptop and $899 Nokia Lumia 800 bundle on eBay, with 100% of the profit going to charity. It’s good to see an injustice corrected, and it seems like it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
