Last night I attended a benefit concert for a friend’s family at my favourite local bar. His older brother has been diagnosed with lung and bone cancer, and the family is severely hurting financially. There were four bands (all of whom donated their pay), admission was a roll of a die (pay anywhere from $1 to $6 to get in), and several businesses and people including myself donated items for a huge raffle. Over all, the evening went very well. All four bands were amazing, which if you’re a fan of local music regardless of your locality you know is rare, even those who didn’t know they were coming for a benefit got into the spirit, and we raised quite a bit of money to help them out. It’s heartwarming to see that even in today’s financial climate there are so many people willing to help someone out. And I know he and his family truly appreciate the outpouring of love, support, and money.
