Craftsman products are normally really high on my list of must haves, and I can see where this would be very handy most of the time. But given my experience with the lack of battery longevity in smartphones, I’m not convinced about this one. It might be fabulous, though, so let’s take a look at what it entails.

Assurelink by Craftsman is an automatic garage door opener that leaves your standard type in the dust. We all know how they work, right? You have a clicker in your car, and either a clicker or a button in your house, that opens and closes the garage door so you can move the car in and out. Very simple. But Assurelink takes it to a whole new level by involving your phone.

Instead of having to use a remote (which fairly often gets lost somewhere in the car unless you actually remember to clip it to your visor), you use your phone to operate the door. But it does way more than that. Assurelink also allows you to monitor your garage door when you’re away as well as open or close it, just in case you can’t remember if you left it open or not. How it works is to connect your garage door opener to your phone using your existing home wireless network via MyQ Technology. Which means it also provides access to other devices in your house such as a security system, which can be very handy.

The Assurelink app is free to download for iPhone or Android, but the garage door opener itself will run you about $275.00 US.
