Xiaomi Smartphones Finally Coming to America This Year? Michael Kwan March 5, 2018 News Well, it has been a few years, so I guess they’ve finally cleared some hurdles and are making their way across the Pacific. And they’re going IPO to raise the cash to do it. Before the year is out, you just may be able to buy Xiaomi smartphones in the U.S. in a totally official and legit way. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Xiaomi plans on raising funds through an initial public offering of stock (IPO) that could bring in “at least $10 billion.” With that money, China’s fourth biggest smartphone company could make a big splash in the US market. It’s not like Xiaomi is a total stranger to the States either, already selling headphones, battery packs, a 360 camera and other items. You might remember when they opened the Mi online store some time back and how we were disappointed no phones were included. Other Chinese brands like ZTE and Huawei are already established players in the North American smartphone market, even if they’re not exactly household names on the same level as Samsung and Apple. More likely than not, Xiaomi smartphones are going to face the same level of scrutiny by the CIA, FBI and NSA as its Chinese compatriots too. Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun expressed confidence, though, affirming that Xiaomi plans “to start entering the [US] market by end 2018, or by early 2019.” Maybe that Xiaomi electric bike isn’t far behind either.
