Amazing, don’t you think? Microsoft used to be just a software company (and for the most part, they still are), but the move to gaming hardware really changed what they were all about. It was exactly ten years ago today that Microsoft launched the original Xbox.

The original Xbox hit the North American gaming scene in 2001 and it was mostly a gaming PC rigged up into the shape of a console. The first Halo game arrived the following year, seeing one million units sold in just four months. Xbox Live launched in November 2002, ushering in a whole new world of online console gaming.

Fast forward to today and we’ve got the Xbox 360, plenty of Xbox Live Arcade games, and controller-free gaming with Kinect. More than 57 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold across 38 countries and there are nearly 35 million Xbox Live members.
