Remember when we were introduced to the Asus ROG Phone a couple months ago at Computex Taipei? It went much further than the Razer Phone in its bold “gamer phone” design, the TwinView dock, clip-on external cooling fan and everything else. But it’s probably going to be prohibitively expensive for most people. But what if there was more a budget-oriented version of the Asus ROG gaming phone?

The TENAA website (the Chinese certification agency that’s like their FCC, sort of) has an apparent listing for the device. Spotted by TechAndroids, the cheaper Asus ROG gaming phone (Z01QD) shares much of the same specs as its flagship cousin.

From what we can see, the cheaper variant will still get a Snapdragon 845 processor, though it may or may not be overclocked like the main ROG phone. We’re also seeing the 3,850 mAh battery and the 6-inch (2160 x 1080 pixel) display, as well as the 128GB and 512GB storage options.

Where things start to differ is with the RAM. Whereas the main Asus ROG gaming phone comes with 8GB standard, the Z01QD may come in 4GB, 6GB and 8GB flavors. The dual camera array on the back has also been replaced by a single 12MP shooter (plus the 8MP selfie camera). But it’s still got the dual USB-C ports on the side for specialized accessories and such.

But how much cheaper could a cheaper Asus ROG gaming phone be? It’s clearly not a “budget” device, but it might bring the price down just enough to entice the right buyer.
