You know, I’ve always had a feeling that there was something crucial missing from the burgeoning VR scene, and thanks to Koei Tecmo Wave, I know now what that missing component was: horrible discomfort. Thanks VR Sense!

I kid, but the company’s new VR Sense gaming cabinet brings some very questionable things to the experience. According to Koei Tecmo Wave, the machine brings movement, aroma, touch, wind, heat, cold, rain, and mist to VR, and while virtual reality gaming can definitely benefit from those things, it all depends on what exactly you’re simulating.

A horror game called Horror Sense let players feel virtual bugs scurrying around their feet. Gross. GI Jockey Sense will let you feel “wind, rain, and snow” while you ride your horse. Sounds cold! Dynasty Warrior will let you feel the “hot flames on the battlefield” and I’m out.

Seriously though, virtual reality is exciting and hat’s off to Koei Tecmo Wave for experimenting with different gaming experiences. It doesn’t sound like anything more than a gimmick, but let’s not knock gimmicks. If I had one of these down at my local arcade, I could see subjecting myself to this virtual house of horrors every so often. The VR Sense will make its debut this weekend at the Japan Amusement Expo.
