Viacom to YouTube: Stop Giving Us Free Publicity! Stephen Fung February 2, 2007 In an interesting move, Viacom, a huge media empire with some of the latest and greatest in entertainment, demanded Youtube take down all of their clips from popular programs like the Daily Show. YouTube happens to be one of the most visited sites on the internet, and was recently bought by Google. Google is projected by some to soon own the Internet. It seemed like a match made in heaven by current society, between chosen media darlings. So what happened here? Simple really. Mutual Hotness Jealously. Viacom said its pirated programs on YouTube generate about 1.2 billion video streams, based on a study from an outside consultant.
