Unlocked Amazon Fire Phone Slashed to $199 Outright (Free Amazon Prime Too) Michael Kwan November 26, 2014 News I think most of us can agree that the Amazon Fire Phone has been quite the monumental failure for the company. It’s not that it’s necessarily a bad device; it’s that they priced it and positioned it wrong. The good news for us now is that they’re clearing out inventory, offering the Fire Phone in completely factory unlocked GSM form for just $199. That’s no contract and it still comes with a full year of Amazon Prime, which is worth $99 on its own. With that in mind, it means that you’re getting an Android smartphone with a 2.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera with 1080p video recording and optical image stabilization, a 4.7-inch HD display and that multi-camera-powered head-tracking tech for a net price of $99. And then there’s all that uniquely Amazon stuff, like Firefly and Mayday. You have to remember that when the Fire Phone was first announced earlier this year, it listed for $199 on contract with an outright price as high as $649. Now you can get it for $199 outright with the $99 Amazon Prime bonus. Not bad, I’d say. That’s far better than the 30 monthly installments of $15 with AT&T for a locked Fire Phone. The 32GB GSM model is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile in the US and it should work just fine with Rogers, Bell and Telus in Canada. There’s no specific mention of when this “fire sale” ends on Amazon, so we’ll just assume it’ll run until at least Cyber Monday or until they run out of inventory, whichever happens first.
