Have you ever looked at your cloud storage solution and wished you had just a bit more space to stash all your data? What if you could get unlimited cloud storage for about the price of a latte? It looks like the good folks at Amazon are taking a serious stab at the OneDrives, Google Drives, and Dropboxes of the world, because they’ve just unveiled an unlimited Amazon Cloud Drive plan for five bucks a month.

This isn’t just for photos and videos either; they already had that before and you can already get that through other services like Google Photos. This is for just about anything you want, including automatic backups of everything you shoot on your smartphone, as well as all the data you have rocking around on your PC. In Canada, this unlimited storage plan will run for $59.99 per year, paid annually.

If you’re only interested in your pictures, then there’s also the unlimited photos plan for $11.99 per year, which works out to a buck a month. You get unlimited storage space for as many pictures that you want, plus 5GB for videos and other files. The lack of unlimited storage for videos is a bit of a downer, which is why you might want to upgrade to the full unlimited storage plan instead. If you already have an Amazon Cloud Drive account, you can switch to either of these new plans by logging into your account.

Amazon Cloud Drive Launches Unlimited Cloud Storage for Canada

Customers can choose between two convenient and affordable storage plans—Unlimited Storage or Unlimited Photos—and rest easy knowing their content is safe and accessible

Free 3-month trial available for eligible customers to experience unlimited cloud storage of photos, videos, movies, music, and files

SEATTLE—March 21, 2016—Amazon.ca today announced unlimited cloud storage with Amazon Cloud Drive—two new storage plans for customers to securely store their existing content collections and automatically upload endless amounts of new content, including photos, videos, movies, music, and files. With the unlimited plans, customers no longer need to worry about how much storage is needed to keep their content safe and secure—they can choose either the Unlimited Storage Plan or Unlimited Photos Plan and only pay one flat fee per year. All their content is securely stored and available for download at their original size and resolution, so memories are protected for a lifetime. A free 3-month trial is available for eligible customers in Canada to try either plan:

  • Unlimited Storage Plan (free 3-month trial, then $59.99 per year—equivalent of less than $5 per month): Store an infinite number of files—new and existing photos, videos, files, documents, movies, and music in Cloud Drive. Customers can auto-save all of the photos and videos from their mobile devices, automatically back up all of the content on their computer, and access any of the content at full resolution from any device.
  • Unlimited Photos Plan (free 3-month trial, then $11.99 per year—equivalent of less than $1 per month): Store an infinite number of photos in Cloud Drive without worrying about taking up space on phones, cameras, or other devices. Customers can automatically upload existing collections and store all future photos taken. This plan also includes 5 GB of additional storage for videos or other documents and files.

“Most people have a lifetime of birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments stored across numerous devices. And, they don’t know how many gigabytes of storage they need to back all of them up,” said Josh Petersen, Director of Amazon Cloud Drive. “With the two new plans we are introducing today, customers don’t need to worry about storage space—they now have an affordable, secure solution to store unlimited amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and files in one convenient place.”

Beginning today, customers can start experiencing unlimited cloud storage for free with a 3-month trial on either plan. Prime members who already enjoy free unlimited photo storage can choose to sign up for the Unlimited Storage Plan to store videos and files in addition to photos. Existing Cloud Drive customers can change their plans now by simply logging into their Cloud Drive accounts.
