U.S. Cellphone Unlocking Ban Starting Jan 26 Dylan Duarte January 25, 2013 If you live in America and you’ve been meaning to unlock your cellphone, you’d better get on that right now. As of January 26 of this year, unlocking your cellphone will be an illegal act. Back in October, the Library of Congress established such a rule and gave a 90-day window for consumers to prepare for the ban. Unlocking a cellphone is incredibly useful, especially when traveling overseas, so it only makes sense that it’s being outlawed. God forbid consumers get the most out of the devices that they spent their hard-earned money on. A lot of people feel that once you purchase a product, you should be able to tweak and modify said product as you see fit, as it’s your property. That makes sense to me. Fortunately, Verizon’s iPhone 5 comes unlocked and AT&T will unlock your phone once your contract is up. There are still companies fighting the good fight, even if the playing field isn’t exactly level. via Uber Gizmo Share This With The World!
