Ah, the “ohmygod everyone will be here in 24 hours” bedlam! Yup, the world descends on my house tomorrow, and while we are always ready for it, we never feel like we will be. Well, that’s not quite right. I know I’ll be ready, but my mother is a natural-born worst case scenario queen, so everything is always a drama with her. So be it. My baking is done, my last load of laundry is in the dryer, my presents are wrapped and under the tree, and my cookie tray is assembled. All I have to do is make a shrimp salad (as soon as I can get in the kitchen…she’s baking pies right now), put away my laundry, and pick up some last-minute stuff I normally leave by my chair in the living room. Then I’m off to work.
