The News: Monday, December 31 Edition Beth Snyder December 31, 2012 Turns out there is enough in my inbox for a post, so here we are. It’s the last day of 2012, and I can’t say I’m sorry to see it go. Not that there weren’t some good things this year, but for the most part it was a lost cause. However, yesterday at my dad’s house was amazing. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease about 15 years ago, and with dementia they think is Alzheimer’s two years ago. He is not good as a rule. Yesterday, though…yesterday was incredible. He was more “him” than he’s been in years, and it was the first time in memory I left his house with tears of joy and a smile rather than tears of heartbreak and a need to get drunk. I hope none of you have to ever deal with the heartbreak of watching a loved one go through the hell of a disease that robs them of themselves, but if you do, I hope you are given the gift of seeing them how they once were at some point.
