And the saga of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes to an end (or is at least very close to an end). Samsung has confirmed that they won’t be repairing or refurbishing any recalled Note 7 units, but instead disposing of them completely. According to the company, they have a process in place to safely do so. I assume it involves salting and burning the bones.

So not only is Samsung out over $2 billion over the whole fiasco, but the environment took a hit as well, as the rare earth elements involved in making the phones aren’t exactly easy to mine. The process affects the local population as well, and now it was all for nothing.

Samsung didn’t go into details on how it plans to dispose of the phones, but you better believe that environmental groups would like to know how it plans to scrap so many units in a short period of time.
