Roku Milestone: 15 Million Monthly Users, 7 Billion Hours Michael Kwan July 13, 2017 News You’ve got a lot of options when it comes to streaming media over the Internet. You can simply enjoy it from within the confines of a web browser on your computer or mobile device. You can use the apps built into your smart TV or home game console. Or you can be like 15 million other people and use Roku. That’s quite the Roku milestone! As of the end of last month, Roku announced that it has reached 15 million monthly active accounts globally. That represents a 43 percent growth over the same period last year. Among those 15 million users, they streamed a total of almost 7 billion hours using the Roku platform in just the first half of 2017. That’s a61 percent growth over the same period in 2016. This Roku milestone combines all active accounts, regardless of how they choose to use Roku and what they choose to watch or listen to. They might have an integrated Roku TV, they might use a streaming media player, or they could even use one of the many Roku apps available. For Canadians, this includes access to over 4,000 streaming channels and over 100,000 movies and TV episodes. “Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the United States as measured by total hours streamed,” said company founder and CEO Anthony Wood. “We are growing our active accounts by distributing our proprietary TV OS across a broad range of streaming devices with multiple price points and many new and highly rated Roku TV models from our TV brand partners.” Share This With The World!
