There are a lot of ways to advertise for your business and Australian pro audio brand RODE needs to be commended on their creative, fruitful approach. They’re bringing My RODE Reel back for its fifth year and filmmakers all over the world are invited to submit their short films for their chance at the $1 million prize pool.

Anyone can enter, with the only criteria being that your film is three minutes or less and you submit alongside it a behind-the scenes feature showcasing the RODE products used in its production. There are a whopping 30 categories to win in this year, and the prize pool contains gear from dozens of filmmaking brands such as Blackmagic Design, Rhino, Freefly, Red Giant, and APHEX.

There are six major prizes making their return: Judges’ Film Award, People’s Choice Award, Female Filmmaker Award, Young Filmmaker Award, Education BTS Award, and Entertaining BTS Award. Major kudos to RODEfor showcasing diversity in their competition.

There’s a new category called “The Pitch” that will see one contestant winning a year-long gig at RODE HQ in Sydney, Australia, based on the strength of their showreel or “pitch” explaining why they’d be a good fit. Like the entry films, the pitch video can’t be more than three minutes.

Last year’s My RODE Reel featured 1,520 entries from 80 countries around the world, so competition is stiff. The content kicked off on April 1st and entries will be accepted up until July 31st, 2018. Entry is free. Be sure to grab the starter pack and good luck!
