The Apple iPad, particularly the iPad Pro, is trying really hard to prove itself a “real” computer and a “real” gaming console. While you might not want to toss out your Macbook just yet, you will be able to take some full-fledged strategy on the go as Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is now available for the iPad. And yes, this appears to be the full version and not some feature-stripped mobile port.

This is a very surprising move, seeing how the full-blown PC version of the game only came out last year. If you didn’t jump on board then, maybe because you’re not much of a PC gamer or because you didn’t want to be tied down to your computer for hours on end, then this is a fresh opportunity. That said, if you’re not much of a PC gamer, you’re probably not terribly familiar with Sid Meier’s Civ series anyhow.

With the iPad version of Civilization VI, it looks like you get everything you get from the desktop version. The strategy game comes complete with large-scale empire building, technology development from the Stone Age to the Information Age, dynamic interactions with other civilizations, and even a local multiplayer mode.

This is the same “full, award-winning Civilization VI experience” as the one that won 15 E3 Awards, including Best PC Game and Best Strategy Game. It’s just a matter of getting used to the iPad-oriented controls, I guess.

And because it is so equivalent to a full-blown PC game, the iPad take comes with a full-blown kind of price too. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI for the iPad is available now through the App Store. You can download it and try it for free for the first 60 turns. After that, you’ll be prompted to buy the full game for $59.99. Whew!

If you’d rather skip the iPad and hunker back down on your PC, the same game can be picked up for half that price instead. But who can put a price on mobility? Oh, I guess publisher Aspyr Media can. And did.
