Pebble Time Launches on Kickstarter, Raises Millions in Hours Dylan Duarte February 24, 2015 The original Pebble smartwatch hit Kickstarter in April of 2012 and set of a record (which has since been broken) by raising $10.3 million over the course of its campaign. Now Pebble has returned to Kickstarter for the third iteration of its watch, the Pebble Time, and in the roughly four hours since its unveiling, it’s raised over five million dollars. The exact total is $5,352,918, and that’s coming from 25,878 backers. The goal was only $500,000 and the craziest thing is they’ve still got 31 days to go. The Pebble Time will retail for $199. The 10,000 $159 early bird spots are all gone and only 6,562 $179 pledge spots remain from the initial 20,000 as of this writing. Even a quarter of the $5,000 pledge spots are gone. That’s a lot of numbers, I’m sorry, but the point is these things are selling like hotcakes. You need to get in on this now if you want to take part. The Pebble Time offers a new timeline interface, a color e-paper display, a microphone, and the 7-day battery life you’ve come to expect from Pebble watches. It’s also compatible with all 6,500+ existing Pebble apps. The first Pebble smartwatch received heaps of praise and was a runaway success, so the folks at Pebble are very grateful for what Kickstarter did for them, hence the return for the all-new Pebble Time.
