OnePlus 2 Pre-Orders Hit Over One Million (and Counting) Michael Kwan July 31, 2015 News This really shouldn’t surprise anyone who has been following the mobile world for the last little while. The original OnePlus One was the surprise hit of 2014, offering customers a flagship-caliber device at a fraction of the price. And even though OnePlus 2 pre-orders have been only been accepted by the company for a few short days, over one million people have already expressed interest in buying the new smartphone as soon as it is released. Set to launch next month, the OnePlus 2 will follow largely in the footsteps of its predecessor. It won’t be sold through carriers (at least not initially) and you’ll need to go through the “invite” system as before. Given this, the system for accepting OnePlus 2 pre-orders is really about requesting an invite to buy the phone and not really about plunking down your credit card number to actually buy it. Even so, that’s a very impressive number and it’s certainly reassuring for a smartphone company that no one even knew about last year. Even if some of the people who signed up to receive an invitation don’t actually follow through with the purchase, most of them will likely pass the invitation on to friends, family and colleagues… assuming they don’t try to sell the invitation on the grey market. That happened a lot with the OnePlus One, after all. Are you on the list of OnePlus 2 pre-orders? Is the newest “Flagship Killer” a part of your mobile future?
