Normally, I spend less time thinking about mouse pads than I do thinking about how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop. But this just caught my eye, especially since I got my new mouse which apparently is only willing to function on certain surfaces, and not always the same ones. Right now, I’m sitting here with my mouse on the arm of my chair…on a piece of plain white paper…on a book. It’s not an ideal solution.

Smartfish, progenitor of several brilliant input devices, has a solution for people like me who use our laptop mice under less than ideal circumstances. What you get is a nine-inch diameter neoprene mouse pad that zips up around your mouse to form a travel pouch. That’s it…no muss, no fuss. Your mouse will be somewhat protected instead of randomly knocking around in your bag, and you never have to worry that your picky optical mouse will refuse to work on the surface you have available.

This will be available “in early July”, so any time now. You’ll be able to get one in blue or black, and they will cost just $14.95 US each.
