The Nyko Zoom is a clip on, wide-angle lens kit for the Xbox 360 Kinect motion controller. According to Nyko, the Zoom will reduce the amount of space required by Kinect to operate by up to 40%. At the same time, it expands the width of the active playing area so you and your friends can get in on the action, despite being closer to the TV. The Nyko Zoom is fully compatible with all Kinect games and won’t require any further calibration or setup. This is a godsend most Kinect owners as the average living room is probably not large enough for Kinect to work optimally out of the box.

The Kinect Xbox 360 accessory has currently sold more than 10 million units worldwide since its launch last November. It has garnered the distinction of being the most successful accessory launch in history and also the fastest selling accessory of all time, according to Guiness World Records. The Kinect add-on provides motion control to supported Xbox 360 games and makes games such as Kinect Sports, Yoostar and runaway hit, Dance Central, possible. The Kinect is a masterpiece of engineering that provides for tracking body position and movements, depth perception as well as facial and voice recognition.

However, the Kinect also has a very literal blind spot. You have to be a minimum of 6ft from the camera before it can effectively detect you, and you need to have even greater separation if you plan on playing games such as Kinect Adventures with a friend.  This obvious oversight is strange considering the amount of development work that has gone into Kinect, and it makes one wonder whose living rooms Microsoft used for testing the Kinect prior to launch. In any case, if you don’t happen to live in a mansion like Bill Gates, fear not – Nyko’s Zoom has you covered. Announced at E3, the Nyko Zoom will be hitting storeshelves very, very soon at a suggested retail price of US$29.99.
