NVIDIA is Recalling Certain SHIELD Tablets Over Potential Fire Hazards Dylan Duarte July 31, 2015 News NVIDIA has been recalling some Shield 8-inch tablets due to defective lithium-ion batteries that can overheat and pose a fire hazard. All tablets with battery types that test Y01 can and should be replaced. Representatives from the company have asked tablet owners to only use the tablets to initiate the replacement process and to back up all data. To see if your tablet is among those being recalled, visit the official NVIDIA website. You can also initiate the recall process through that website on your PC, if you’d rather not use your tablet at all. There are have been four reports of affected SHIELD devices, and according to analysts the recall will only cost NVIDIA $1 million at most. The defective batteries don’t seem to be harming any other NVIDIA products, thankfully. If you’re looking to pick up a SHIELD tablet, now is the time, because these things seem to be on fire.
