If you spend any amount of time in the kitchen, you know that there are a wide variety of implements necessary to make things come out right…especially for baking. I’m more of a “fly by the seat of your pants” kind of cook, but my measuring cups and scale still get quite the workout. Putting both things into one gadget is definitely something I could like! Not only does it mean less stuff on the counter while I’m cooking, but it also makes for less dishes to wash. I don’t see a losing point here.

This works just like a regular measuring cup for liquids…pour whatever you need to measure into the cup and pay attention to the markings on the side to make sure you’ve got the proper amount. It will hold one liter (four cups). But the Maxim will also weigh dry ingredients! Just pour them into the cup and the weight will be displayed on the LCD screen built into the handle. You can weigh anything up to 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds). On both the outside markings and the scale, measurements are displayed in both metric and Imperial, so it’s good for use everywhere. The one CR2032 battery required for operation is included.

But wait, there’s more! It can also convert five commonly-used ingredients from weight to volume! This is the function I would use constantly, although I wish it would convert more ingredients. Often I am too lazy to haul out the scale to weigh things and I try to guess how much it would be. Fairly often I’m wrong.

There are a couple of negative points to this, which may be a deal-breaker for some. The cup is made of plastic, so you cannot use it for hot liquids over 70C (158F). It also is not waterproof, so you can’t put it in a dishwasher or fully submerge it in a sinkful of water. But if neither of those are bad enough to overcome how cool it is, you can add one to your kitchen gadget collection for £21.49 (or about $34.00 US).
